Create a catchy phrase like:

Swap till you drop at my holiday cookie exchange party.

Decorate With:

Candles

Festive paper products

Fruit baskets

Candy canes

Fresh flowers

Poinsettia plants

Be sure to have music playing.

Food

Serve:

Mulled cider

Gourmet coffees

Teas

Hot cocoa

Eggnog

Wine and liquor for adults

Sparkling cider

Soda

Flavored seltzers

Offer hors d'oeuvres like:

Vegetables

Fruits

Cheeses

Crackers

Assorted dips for veggies and fruits

Have each guest bring baked cookies or candies (2 dozen).
Place them around a table or counter that won't need to be used during your party.
Towards the end of the gathering or as your guests leave, have each guest (that brought a baked good) take two dozen assorted cookies. They could take a few from each tray to equal two dozen. You could also incorporate a grab bag with a dollar amount of say $10, more or less.

Games

I have an idea for a game that is sure to be a big hit for this occasion.

Your guests may or may not know each other, so I've devised a plan called
Know your neighbor.

Have each guest write on paper one thing about themselves that people may not know.

For example:

I was in the Army

I love chocolate

I love animals

I was a model

I went to Montclair State College

Then they will fold and place in basket or bowl until you're ready to pull each one and read it. When you've gotten everyone's attention, you could read each one and try to guess who it could be.

It's a great way to get to know somebody and a lot of fun. You're sure to get a lot of laughs out of this one! What a better way to enjoy and evening away from wrapping, shopping, cooking and preparing for the holidays.
